I saw these pinned on Pinterest a while ago, and I decided to go ahead and make them so I can have them ready for next month. Being a mom, full time student, and a crafty genius wanna-be sometimes forces me to do things early.

They are just about the EASIEST Valentines EVER. Hey, you friends, you have to wait until next year. :P I saw it first!

This is the pin. The blog I was directed to is DesignMom.com. It's simply really. Get a close up shot of your kiddo holding his/her hand out. Add some text. Print it. Cut Slits. Insert lollipop.

Totally cute and totally awesome.

Yay for the internet. Yay for crafty people sharing their goodies. Yay for Pinterest!

Now, as far as the picture, please pay no attention to the scalloped edges. I couldn't find my scissors. The actual Valentines are being printed on better paper. This was just to give you all the general idea.

Foodie Friday

In 2012, I am trying to teach myself to bake. I can usually make a meal for family and friends that is tasty, but my desserts leave little to be desired.

Last night I tried my hand at a peanut butter cookie. I found the website delish.com. They had this recipe. With a few tweaks (I added more oatmeal and also had to compensate because I only had all purpose flour), I got some pretty fabulous treats.

Hello everyone!

So, a year (just about) has gone by without any blog postings from me. That's really terrible. Busy doesn't even begin to describe it. Also, I think I was looking at the blogging as work and not as fun.

So, for 2012, let's just have fun.

What do I like to do for fun? I like to create things. Lately, I have been looking through the pins on Pinterest for ideas. Sometimes, I just try to create (or duplicate) the project or the recipe. Yet, sometimes, I use it for inspiration-just something to start my brain. Here let me show you:

I saw this vase before Christmas. So, I decided to try it for myself. I found some vases at the Dollar Store and had a little fun.

This is the end result:

Just yesterday, I was looking for an idea for a teacher's gift for my son's preschool teacher. I wanted to do something with a monogram, but I wasn't sure WHAT exactly. So, I headed back to Pinterest and found this awesome pin. I quickly texted my good friend for a French lesson and was all set to gather the supplies needed to make this. Soon, it hit me that I should try to use what I already had at home. I was going to use whole crayons and cut them, but I had already done that for his other teacher. After what seemed like an eternity (probably just an hour), I decided to make crayon sprinkles and use it like glitter. So... here you have it... The crayon sprinkled Monogram with the words in English instead of French that was inspired by something wonderful I saw on Pinterest. :)

I will try to be better about blogging. I will try to have more fun.

Today is a lovely day in NC. The sun is shining and the breeze is cool...NOT COLD. I want to be painting or something. However, after this post I will be getting back to work on a major assignment that is due tomorrow.

This morning, I started a wall for a friend of mine. I haven't finished, but I wanted to show off the outline. :)

When I got home, my husband and son had been playing in the driveway with sidewalk chalk. I saw the drawings and was reminded that really it is my husband with the talent.

I saw a newspaper covered vase, and it hit me! That's what I will do for G's preschool teacher!!! Her birthday is tomorrow, and I am "room mom."

I just happened to have a terracotta pot left over from a Holiday craft I did with G. We don't subscribe to the newspaper, so I found an old yellow pages and used the "florist pages"... and VOILA! A flower pot.

I tried today to make a glass tile pendant using a picture I printed and a tray/tile kit I purchased. I think it turned out pretty cute, but I almost did a better job of gluing my fingers together than I did with making the pendant.

I haven't quite figured out how I can actually make these and still be reusing. This one is going to be tough. ;)

I am sitting in my house making a to do list of all that I would like to accomplish this weekend, and I realized that I need a couple of days dedicated solely to arts and crafts. I wonder...is it possible to ever do that? Is there a retreat I can take? In my wildest dreams maybe.

Things are super exciting here at casa de la green mum. We got a new furbaby!!!! His name is Miles, and he's a 9 year old "Gollie." His previous owner is a super cool friend of a friend who had to move and just could not keep him.

He's a love bug, and we are so thrilled to have him.

Today's ramblings are dedicated to the weather. Today is an unexpected snow day for all of us at my house. My son had no preschool, my college canceled classes due to inclement weather, and my husband works at a private school-no work for him today.

A 365 challenge?

A lot of my friends are doing a 365 photo challenge. I have tried in years past to do something like this, and I haven't made it past about 18 days. I love taking pictures, and I do find myself snapping shots almost daily with the iPhone. However, my 365 challenge is to post something CREATIVE on this blog every day. Maybe it's a picture of some work I've done-maybe it's a cute shot I took. Maybe it's a brainstorming post... Who knows???

So, let me play catch up!

January 1, 2011: I made the decision to paint a mural in my son's room. I am very excited! I have started the process, but the plan is to create it next week while he is at preschool. Looking forward to posting pics!

My (almost) two year old is like a sponge these days. He just amazes me with the things he seems to learn everyday. Recently, he has been fascinated with the alphabet. Seriously. He is already (did I mention he wasn't even 2 yet?) starting to recognize letters.

Anyhow, his new found love of all things alphabet has inspired a new part of my spring collection. Here is a peek at just a few of my original designs.

I had a customer request for a Monkey Tote. I really had a lot of fun on this one. Here's the project from start to mostly finished.. ;)

I should be doing my schoolwork, but I am procrastinating... I realized that I had not posted anything to my blog since last month.
I thought it would be fun to try a new way to post on my blog. Let's spice things up a bit!

How about I share with you the story of the last custom order I had? Doesn't that sound like a great time? Great! Thankfully, the customer is a REALLY awesome lady. I had a few "issues" with gettings started on my end (meh), but I think it will have a happy ending.

The order was for a tan apron with a custom design for someone for Valentine's Day. Well...I thought I would go crazy and just use one of my regular white aprons and dye it... I bought some iDye color 402. Well, I am no good at reading and following directions. I should have KNOWN better.

Sooooo....unfortunately, after 2 failed attempts on dyeing the apron, I almost threw in the towel. Then, it hit me! "How about I go buy a TAN apron!?" DUH!

So I did...
I start out all of my designs with a sketch in pencil.

Then I paint...

Then, I outline...

Now I just have to give the paint a chance to dry, touch it up, and ship it out!

What a neat-o Valentine's Day gift idea!

Thinking about ordering a Portrait Tote?

Here's the process:

1. Choose a bag size- either 16"x 15.5" x5" for $18 or 19"X15.5"X5" for $25

2. Email me a picture to greenmumtotes@gmail.com.

Please note: The picture needs to be at least 300dpi. Make sure the person's or animal's face is clear and that the facial expression they are making in the photo is what you want represented on the bag.

3. Due to the custom nature of these bags, I do require 50% deposit before beginning the project. This may be paid via PayPal to the email address listed above.

4. Give me about 10 days to get it done and shipped out to you.

Some final thoughts:
* There is no extra charge to add the name or for additional pics (up to 3 faces). I would not reccommend more than 4 faces on any bag.
* They will ALL be done in one solid color. Black is best, but any color is ok.
* They will all be sillouette in nature. ;)

A few things are going on for green mum right now:
1. Today, potentially a thousand or more people with see an ad for us in a program for Baby! Baby! That is amazing and frightening at the same time.
2. The contest submissions are all wonderful, so the pressure to create amazing graphics for them is on!

What's going to happen on Feb 10th?

A lot of my buyers are moms who buy little pre-school bags for their kiddos. I’ve really just gotten started, and I just learned about this new law. I guess I just think it’s sad that a lot of the small business owners or just crafty people who sell a few items for kiddos here and there will be doing something illegal if they don’t start testing their product before selling it. (Testing costs roughly $140 per item and my totes are $12 each, not very promising...)

There's a movement of citizens inspired by the presidential campaign who are now submitting ideas for how they think the Obama Administration should change America. It's called "Ideas for Change in America."

One idea is titled: Save Handmade Toys From the CPSIA. I thought you might be interested in getting involved and recommend you check it out. You can read more and vote for the idea by clicking the following link:

This is my table at the Jamboree at an elementary school in Greensboro a few weeks ago. Although I didn't sell as many items as I had wanted, I was able to get the word out by handing out several business cards. After that the family and I went to the Triad Mommies birthday party where I raffled off one of my totes. It was exciting to see the number of tickets! People wanted one! Yay!

So... I came to Albany, NY to visit my family for a couple of weeks. This past weekend my Aunt and I went to this INCREDIBLE salvage yard where we found some cool things I can use to display my bags. I got an old crib rail and an antique clothes rack... reuse and recycle right? Anyway, I am so excited and I just cannot wait to make my display so funky and neat-o at my next event on the 22nd of November! Yay!

so.. I did it. I took a lot of people's advice and got an Etsy account set up. Which, made me have to set up a paypay account. Which, made me hyperventilate! LOL!

Stephen is going to help me set up a cool banner, and I should have some totes up for sale by Tuesday or Wednesday!

So... We headed out to The Oz Block Party on downtown Greensboro today. I didn't SELL as many bags I wanted to, but I did get the word out!! I need business cards... anyhoo... Pics are above!

My husband is so wonderful and designed the green mum logo for me. He rocks!

I'll bet you are wondering where I got the name "green mum." (Okay, maybe you aren't but, I'm going to give you the scoop anyway! ;) ) I wanted to be Green Mama, but that name was already taken.. so I tried Green Mom.... Then, I thought.. Green Mommy.. but nothing felt right. My husband and I were being silly and just walking around the house saying, "Green..uh.. Ma" "Green Mammy" "Green Momsy" Then, I said "Green Mummy" And, we looked at eachother and said. "Green MUM!" So, it's not only because I am a new mommy trying to ge as GREEN as I can, but it is also a pretty flower! How lucky are we?!

I don't know why I am so excited about this, but I have found a fun new hobby... I am crafting canvas totes, bookbags, and gift bags. It's environmentally friendly and fun!

Today I not only found eco friendly acrylic paint, but I also painted my first owl!! It was a lot harder than I thought it would be...
